Profit

More than anything, your fees dictate your profit. Time-based pricing is profitable. Time and value based pricing is even more profitable.

The most profitable set up is one where you make as much as possible by doing as little as possible while satisfying your clients needs.

Rather than selling billable hours where you have to work more to make more, you should sell them results and value.  In this way you simply have to give more value to make more. 

This can easily be done with processes and systems to maximize your efficiency to achieve more value with fewer hours. 

How much of your fees do you actually collect on? Do you have stale receivables that you have sold for cents on the dollar?

Presence

Your website should not simply be an online resume. It should be designed to bring you as many paying clients as possible.  So few lawyers know this, but in order to optimize your returns, your website must be:

Visible – People need to be able to find it when they are looking for your services.

Convertible – It needs to be designed in way that leads people to taking action that results in a retainer.

Credible – You need to present a premium image of competence and professionalism.

There is no point in listing that you graduated cum laude from an elite law school if it does not result in more leads for you.

Practice

Your practice is your product.  From the initial phone call to the closing letter, each interaction with your client makes an impression and will affect your bottom line.

The fact of the matter is, you are always marketing. Every encounter with anyone who is aware of your business is an opportunity to positively influence them to be an ambassador – a free walking billboard for your brand.

The cumulative impact of negative or even neutral goodwill will harm you and reflect in your bottom line.
